DESCRIPTION:This is a presentation by Jose Batista Afonso\, about his work in Brazil as a land rights lawyer and human rights defender. He is in the UK following a visit to Brussels. \nHe has worked on human rights abuses and killings linked to land rights conflicts in Brazil\, this being one of the most dangerous places in the world for land and environmental defenders. \nBatista will touch upon his work with the Pastoral Land Commission to achieve social and environmental justice for poor landless communities.
